One after the other, pushing each other, shouting like crazy. Climbing the ladder in our bathing suits with soaked hair. Mouth wide open and shining teeth. Grinning, that’s what they’d say. Our arms and feet on the ladder, bodies rushing up then sliding down the hill, right to the bottom. Laughing, arms bruised.
When life was amazing. The sun shining and the children swimming.
We were stupid and free, stronger than ever. Running up the hill, climbing the ladder endlessly. Trying to reach the sky but also happy to let our weight pull us down, losing control. I think we didn’t realize the uniqueness of such moments. Time was a joke to us. We’d been built for happiness, eternal bliss.
